A resume is a very important document that is sent across to the employer when you are on a job search. The resume is more than a tool, it is in fact a complete marketing tool to canvass your qualifications and experiences in such a manner that you win the employer’s heart over and get invited for the interview. Writing a professional resume is not a very difficult job if it is done with care and precision. But a polished piece of résumé can definitely be a work of art. We have to plan our resume right.

Considering the format of a résumé, the chronological format is very important. It has to be organized with the companies and titles presented in a reverse order. The very recent work experience should appear first. It should contain bulleted points that are quite relevant to the objective of the job. This is the most common format found.

The other format is to be organized by the functions and the job skills with more emphasis on skills that are transferable and refer especially to the job objective. This also refers to the job titles, employment dates and company names.

There is yet another format that says much on innovations, percentage increases, recognitions by the company, improvements etc. Capabilities that are proven as mentioned in a separate section in the beginning of the resume.

In the Curriculum Vitae format, the seminars, presentations, publications and seminars are mentioned. Special credentials and Education is mentioned at the beginning of the resume.

There is still another format in which computer skills are placed at the beginning of the resume. The skills include Languages, Software, Hardware, Networks, Protocols, and Databases and so on.

The email able version is a resume that is formatted and can be sent through email or posted on the internet. There are many employers who go on a computer search using search through keywords. So take care to use a keyword list that caters to the content of the email.

Thus as we have seen there are many formats to a resume which can be used according to our requirements. The resume has to be such that with a proper format and look it earns a look through by the employer and if there are words that are highlighted all through the résumé and these words are relevant to the job profile the employer has been looking for, he gets to see these words mentioned on your resume. He goes out to select the resume and invites the candidate for an interview. A properly formatted resume with good fonts and a professional look gives a resume the extra edge over the others. If you can write your points to the point and use creativity as well as common sense in the building of your resume you surely can impress the employer and win him over to get an interview call. The process has started and that is because you have a formatted resume in place. Get started, the dream job is right round the corner.
