How to Evaluate Your Resume

Building a resume is not an easy job and there are many who do it just for the sake of doing it. They end it up with utter callousness and make a mess of it. A resume is the marketing tool for getting your dream job and a lot depends on making your resume presentable to the employer’s eyes. After all, the employer does not know you and it is only through the resume that you are primarily introduced to him. It is not upon him whether he would like to call you for a round of interview or not. So for your best interests you should make your resume stand out among the crowd of competitors.

You have to do something to evaluate whether your resume touches the mark of a good resume and stands itself out so that it catches the eyes of your employer.

Consider whether the resume is well formatted. Does it look good to the eyes? If you are a student without much experience it should be less than one page, if you are a seasoned professional it should not be more than three pages.

You have to use proper legible fonts for your resume and not fonts with comic and bizarre looks which are a torment to the eyes.

Use a dictionary or spell check for spelling and grammatical errors. You may ask someone to go through your resume for grammatical errors. Check if the resume is written in good English.

Try to find out whether your resume would stand out in the crowd. Is your resume actually suited to the position you are looking for?

How do you portray yourself when the resume is read out? Try to guess whether it would make a mark on the employer. Try to understand whether you are satisfied with your resume and whether it tell the employer explicitly who you are and why do you think you are a suitable candidate for the job.

For an Introduction to the Resume, you should have your name, address and contact number correctly written on top. For the Objective, you should be careful not to make the objective too long or short. It should be clear and not ambiguous. It should also be focused and it should always tally with the job you are targeting.

As for education, be sure to place the degree just earned and then the rest. If you do not have a degree you may add your professional qualifications.

For the professional experience, you must mention the years of experience, the firms, you have worked with, their locations and also if there is a gap in your work schedule, be sure to account for that as a question might be raised. You professional experience should be honestly conveyed.

Be sure to mention the skills, whether they are hobbies or co-curricular activities and also if you have won any prizes for these activities. Write out the whole thing just stating facts so that it does not seem that you are bragging. Try to mention the skills that are commensurate with the job you are targeting.

Follow the above mentioned directives to a T. That would help you in evaluating your resume and help you in presenting the best resume to win you the dream job!
